Yoga

The roots of Dahn Yoga or Practice extend several thousand years back into Korean history. It began as an ancient Korean training program to educate the population on how to develop both mind and body.

Dahn Yoga is the study of life energy, based on the authentic mind/body training, recreated for contemporary. "Dahn" means energy, vitality, and origin of life. Dahn is the study of energy (Ki, Chi) and how to use it for empowerment by restoring mind/body communication.

Dahn Yoga practice is scientifically designed to work every muscle, tendon, joint, organ, and gland while moving fresh, oxygenated blood throughout the whole body. Practitioners learn to access their Ki-energy and balance the flow of energy within their bodies. The conscious action of focusing Ki-energy inside the body stimulates innate natural healing powers.

Benefits of Dahn Yoga

Practitioners often begin our Yoga program with a specific health goal in mind, such as increasing flexibility or reducing tension. However, it is not unusual for them to
soon report additional benefits they had not anticipated such as
improved sleep, reduction in food cravings, or an overall sense of
well-being. In addition to its physical benefits, Dahn Yoga can also
provide enhancements to an individual's mental and emotional well being.

Listed below are some benefits of the Dahn Yoga program:

  • Increased flexibility and balance
  • Reduced tension and stress
  • Improved sleep
  • Increased energy
  • Weight management
  • Improved immune system
  • Enhanced sense of well being and health
  • Greater self esteem and personal power
  • Connection of Mind/Body/Spirit

DAHN MU DO

WHAT IS DAHNMUDO?

DahnMuDo is an energy-based, non-combative, healing martial art, with roots dating back thousands of years into Korean history. In Korean, ¡°Dahn¡± means energy. ¡°Mu¡± means ¡°martial,¡± or ¡°limitless¡± and ¡°Do (Tao)¡± means, ¡°the way,¡± or, ¡°the ultimate truth.¡± DahnMuDo is therefore also known as ¡°The Art of Being Limitless.¡± Its mind-body training methods combine martial arts movements with universal energy principles to help practitioners circulate blood and energy through the body, and recover the natural balance and rhythm of the body and mind. Its goal lies in training the body and mind to become one.

How is DahnMuDo Different From Other Martial Arts?

While similar to other Asian practices such as QiGong, in terms of circulating energy throughout the body, a senior trainer at the DahnMuDo Headquarters, Master Kang, explains, ¡°This is a very different kind of martial art.¡± Rather than focusing on the external environment, i.e. one¡¯s opponent, or on technical, difficult techniques as with Qigong, DahnMuDo encourages participants to focus inside, to develop their own internal energy and power. Therefore, anyone can enjoy it, from age 8 to age 88. DahnMuDo focuses on the 18 major joints of the body, adjusting the hip joints, pelvis and spine. Correcting the physiological structure of the body allows fresh, oxygenated blood to circulate properly to all joints and internal organs, improving one¡¯s overall health and sense of well-being. As a result, DahnMuDo practice can be extremely beneficial for those with weak or stiff joints, those who want to improve their balance or lose weight and those who simply want to feel more comfortable in their bodies without some of the physical contact elements found in Qigong.

One Posture Can Change Your Life

Every posture in DahnMuDo has a practical application to the every day life of the practitioner that can help them achieve their personal goals. For example, ¡®One Foot Upright Stance¡¯ stimulates left-right brain activity. This can be particularly effective for those who have to remember or study a lot. ¡®One Line Stance¡¯ creates a very prompt response in the brain and quickly stimulates mind-body communication. This posture can dramatically improve the brain¡¯s response time.¡± He adds, ¡°Your boss will be impressed with your quick thinking!¡± Similarly, the other postures and practices of DahnMuDo training have underlying benefits that will ultimately improve a person¡¯s productivity, effectiveness and confidence. ¡°DahnMuDo is actually leadership training,¡± says Kang.

While many students have previously practiced QiGong and other styles of yoga or martial arts, DahnMuDo students are noticing significant changes in their physical body conditions shortly after beginning DahnMuDo training. According to Anjanita Mahadoo, who recently completed DahnMuDo Instructor training, ¡°My spine is straightening and my posture is improving. Most of my back pains are gone. I can do more with my body than I ever thought I was capable of doing.¡± And another recent graduate of DahnMuDo Instructor training, Leanne Garn, age 60, shares, ¡°Thanks to DahnMuDo, I have been able to sleep through the night for the first time in 40 years, and the pain from my carpal tunnel syndrome has disappeared.¡±

More Than Just Physical Training

DahnMuDo¡¯s benefits extend beyond physical and practical, traditionally asocciated with Qigong. Dahnmudo allows members to experience deep meditation, and often, through self-reflection, achieve personal transformation. Kang adds, ¡°As you continue practicing DahnMuDo, you will find yourself absorbed in very deep consciousness, very deep peace within. You will naturally begin to wonder how you can apply this to your every day life. DahnMuDo is a bridge between feeling a sense of deep spirituality and the manifestation of outer, social success in your life.¡±

Another senior trainer, Master Jang, explains such a transformation, ¡°Before beginning DahnMuDo training, I practiced various other forms of martial arts for 14 years. After starting DahnMuDo, my point of view shifted from how I can be better at fighting with an opponent to how I can heal others, and help them feel the energy of the cosmos, the principles of balance and unity in their bodies.¡±

How Do I Start?

The best way to begin is to schedule a one-on-one Introductory Session, during which you will receive an evaluation of your body condition and a training recommendation, based on your individual situation and level of interest. Afterwards you will have a good understanding of the art and how it can benefit you. To schedule an introductory session please call 201-225-9000.

Dahn Mu Do Club

Dahn Mu Do Club is a specialized private/semi private 20 session program uiniquely modified for the group or individual. Each session is 1 1/2 hours so there is no need to rush. Each posture is gone over carefully as well as the principles of the art. Dahn Mu Do Club is truly a transformational program helping the individual overcome their obstacles, regain their health, and discover their true nature.

DAHNMUDO SCHOOL

For members interested in a more intensive DahnMuDo experience, we encourage you to attend DahnMuDo School. There are two programs from which to choose, both guided by senior trainers as well as former DahnMuDo School graduates.

In the Self-Healing program, you will focus more deeply on perfecting the postures of DahnMuDo and learning how proper positioning of the body can correct skeletal structure imbalances, allowing proper energy and blood circulation to be restored throughout the entire body. This program is recommended for those wishing to experience intensive healing.

The Self-Discipline program moves at a faster pace and focuses on deeper strength training, advanced techniques and education in energy principles. You will be prepared for eventual Black Belt testing. This program is recommended for those seeking more intensive training in technique and principle.

BENEFITS

Align And Correct The Skeletal Structure Of The Body
In DahnMuDo exercises, you learn how to put your weight evenly to your feet, which allows your spine to straighten and your pelvis and shoulders to even out horizontally.

Develop The Body¡¯s Natural Healing Power And Immune System
When the vertical and horizontal lines of your body become properly aligned, your joints, bones, muscles and internal organs are placed properly, and their normal, healthy functions restored. This activates and enhances your body¡¯s immune system and innate healing abilities.

Build Internal Energy
As with other forms of Asian energy training, (QiGong, Tai Chi), all of the movements and positions of DahnMuDo are aligned with the meridian system of your body. DahnMuDo training, however, facilitates the accumulation of energy in the lower abdomen, and teaches practitioners how to control the flow of energy in their bodies. Therefore, simply by practicing the postures, you can accumulate internal energy naturally, without expending too much energy on accumulation techniques.

Prevent Osteoporosis
By balancing your body evenly on your feet, a moderate level of pressure is applied to the bones, which brings an increase in bone density and helps to prevent osteoporosis.

Help Diet and Weight Control
Even though the moves of DahnMuDo are very gentle, they remarkably enhance the body¡¯s circulation and let your body burn fat effectively from inside. Through regular practice, you can effectively manage your energy and your weight.

Helps Normalize Blood Pressure
DahnMuDo exercise establishes the strong circulation of ¡°Water-Energy Up and Fire-Energy Down.¡± This proper circulation of energy helps normalize your blood pressure and may relieve many types of circulatory and cardio-vascular problems.

Activates Brain Cells And The Brain's Left And Right Hemispheres
Enhanced body awareness and energy awareness means activation of the neural pathways related with those parts and functions of your body. While you are making your body more limber by practicing DahnMuDo, you are actually making your brain more balanced and agile also.

Improves Self-Confidence And Enhances Self-Esteem
The strengthened energy in your lower abdomen and enhanced body awareness bring composure and self-confidence. This can improve the quality of your life both personally and professionally.

Improves Learning Ability And Work Performance
Enhanced energy circulation, better concentration and focus and improved brain-body coordination allow you to function and perform at a higher level both personally and professionally.
